ESI Announces Orders From Infineon Technologies for Six Laser Processing Systems
„ESI Announces Orders From Infineon Technologies for Six Second Generation Laser Processing Systems\r\n
\r\n… precision laser and mechanical drilling systems for electronic interconnection; and machine vision systems….“;“PORTLAND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 8, 2002–Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:ESIO – news) today announced purchase orders from Infineon Technologies for six Model 9820 semiconductor laser processing systems.\r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\nThe systems are to be installed at the Infineon Technologies plant in Dresden, Germany and in Richmond, Virginia. Delivery of the first three systems took place during ESI’s third fiscal quarter, ended March 2, 2002. The remaining systems will ship during ESI’s fourth fiscal quarter, ending on June 1, 2002. This order is in addition to a multiple system order announced during ESI’s second fiscal quarter, ended December 1, 2001.\r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\nThe 9820 laser systems will be used in the production of Infineon’s most advanced DRAM products, on 200 mm wafers in Richmond and on both 200 mm and 300 mm wafers in Dresden. The systems are designed to be upgradeable in order to give Infineon the ability to process future generations of DRAM and logic devices. The 9820 laser system is ESI’s second-generation 300 mm system. The first-generation 9800 system won the Editor’s Choice Best Product Award for 2000, presented by Semiconductor International Magazine.\r\n

\r\n\“ESI is an industry leader in laser fuse processing technology and remains one of our key suppliers,\“ said Peter Kuecher, vice president and managing director of Infineon Technologies SC300. \“We depend on ESI’s enabling technology to meet our ambitious production goals.\“\r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\“We are pleased to meet Infineon’s requirements and remain their supplier of link processing tools,\“ said Keith Taft, ESI’s semiconductor products business unit manager. \“With the complexity of advanced devices, the technology that ESI provides continues to be essential.\“\r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\“The current climate in the semiconductor industry drives demand for equipment that can reduce manufacturing costs and allow production of more complex, higher value parts,\“ added Taft. \“ESI provides systems that meet or exceed the industry’s device production roadmap requirements, with throughput to keep the cost of ownership at a minimum. The value that the 9820 provides to our customers has resulted in a continued demand for this system.\“\r\n
